After a long day at school, a Friday to be exact, I was finally able to hang out with the boy. Yes, the boy who used to be in love with my sister. The boy who followed me down the long, confusing hallways of the high school I was attending as a freshmen. The boy who stood by my locker and warned me of the other boys who 'chased me'. He was cute, but not exactly my type. For one, his school smarts...weren't that great. Not to mention I was in a higher math level than him. Anyway, he was unattainable.
We went to McDonalds and had a quick snack of french fries and coca cola. Our group consisted of Paige, Arlen, Elisa and Brandon. At that time, many people had been trying to get Elisa and Brandon together. The problem was, it just wasn't happening. We walked down Grange to Marion, then to the elementary school I went to for all 6 years. (Including preschool)
We all split off to swing on the swings or hang off the monkey bars. Nathan decided it'd be funny to chase me around and tickle me. At this point in time, I wasn't exactly the most 'touchable' person ever. I still hadn't enjoyed cuddling or even holding hands. Last time someone tried holding hands with me, i couldn't do it. I wouldn't let them. I was an odd child.
Nathan finally caught up with me through some of the bars. We both fell to the ground as he gently tackled me. After a little teasing, he stood up. Noticing I'd flung off my little pink sandals, he ran to gather them and handed them to me. Tucking my hair behind my ear, he whispered "Let's go to the other side." or something equatable. Not having any reason not to, I followed him. We ran as FAST as possible to the other side, trying to stop after turning the brick wall corner. When we got to the other playground he chased me around some more, only to realize I was much faster than him. He caught up with me on some zig-zag monkey bars. I sat at the end of them. He jumped on top and sat on the other. Moving a little bit closer, he looked me in the eye.
"So I've been hearing things."
"Oh really? Like...?"
"Well some of our friends are saying that we've been talking about.."
"About?" I was impatient.
"About us."
"What about us?"
"Well they said that its quite possible that.."
"That WHAT?"
"That we like each other. And I didn't know if it was true, so I wanted to check with you."
"Oh?"
"So, do you?"
"Do I what?"
"Stubborn much?"
"Very."
"Well do you like me or not?"
"Yes?"
"Yes you like me?"
"Mhm."
"Well in that case..."
"Hm?"
"Do you want to go out with me?"
The butterflies started, if that's what you'd call them. I never thought I'd be the girl that would be asked out. I had always envisioned my first boyfriend being found BY ME and asked BY ME to date me. Never the other way around, never the normal way. But I'm glad that's how it happened.
"Well I think that we should walk back around the corner, and pretend we just had sex."
"How are we gonna do that?"
"I'm gonna pull my shirt up and fix it as we come around the corner."
"Hahaha good idea. I'll fix mine too"
And so we walked around the corner, and Paige Elisa and Brandon got a kick out of it. We spent the rest of the day sitting around talking. Brandon had to leave and it was just Nathan, Paige and I.
Soon Paige had to go home. Nathan walked me back to my house where I checked in with my parents and went back out. We walked to the tunnel, jumped the fence and walked down the railroad tracks hand in hand.
Emily Laesser called to ask if it was true, that we were dating and I told her yes. I was so excited. We finished walking down the tracks to Chatom's Hill. We sat on the hill talking about how it was going to work out. Then we walked over to the mini-playground by the hill. We talked about what we really were all about and favorite colors and such. It was a pleasant conversation. I felt like I could be myself with him.
And that's all I ever wanted. Ever since the beginning. And I've found it.
I've finally found it.
